This extremely important commercial plant is originally native to the humid forests of Ethiopia and South Sudan but today it is cultivated in many other parts of the world.
In its wild state, it is a small tree, up to 8 m tall, but in cultivation it is usually pruned to a small shrub to facilitate the harvesting process. It has elliptical, shiny green leaves and fragrant white flowers followed yellow to purple fruits.
Coffea arabica is the main source of our ubiquitous coffee, and it is also used in liqueurs, as a flavoring, as a source for caffeine, etc. It adapts well in humid tropical and warm-temperate climates.
Germination: Soak seeds for 24 hours in lukewarm water. Sow 1cm in coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet.
