Carpinus japonica Japanese Hornbeam is a hornbeam native to Japan. It grows to 12-15m tall with leaves that are longer and darker than the European Hornbeam Carpinus betulus. The leaves are dark, glossy and slender, with 20-24 pairs of parallel sunken veins; every third tooth is whisker-tipped.
Growing Info: Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours. Stratification: warm stratify for 60 days, cold stratify for 90 days. Germination: sow seed 1/4" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed.
