A perennial in the daisy and sunflower family (Asteraceae), native to moist, rocky places on the Banks Peninsula on the South Island of New Zealand.
It forms a large cluster of broad, green, straplike leaves to 70 cm (28 in.) long. The daisy-like flowers are held just above the leaves.
In cultivation, it is easily grown and prefers a shaded, moist but well drained position in a temperate climate. It dislikes excessive heat and humidity. Germination: Cold stratify up to 3 months in moist sowing mix. Slightly cover seeds in coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet.
