A vigorous climber from savannas and forest margins in southern Africa. It has shiny, trifoliate leaves, dark green above and pale below and small, yellowish-green flowers, which appear in the leaf axils, followed by fleshy, red to purple, edible fruits.
In the juvenile state, all parts of the plant are covered in rust-colored hairs. Rhoicissus rhomboidea should adapt well in tropical and warm temperate climates. Germination: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours. Sow 1cm deep in coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet. Germination takes 4-8 weeks.
