A vigorous tropical vine with simple leaves and large, scented, greenish white and purple flowers followed by yellowish orange fruits that are edible, sweet, juicy, somewhat acidic, and even more popular than the similar Passiflora ligularis.
Native to mostly lowland rainforests from Costa Rica to the Amazon region in Peru and Brazil, where it is widely distributed, it requires a tropical climate to succeed. Germination: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours. Sow 1cm deep in coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet. Germination takes 4-8 weeks.
