A showy epiphytic or terrestrial bromeliad native to rainforests in southwestern Colombia, Ecuador and Peru between 300 and 1300 m.
It has broad leaves to nearly 2 m long and beautiful, robust inflorescences with densely arranged, yellow flowers and orange to red bracts.
In cultivation Pitcairnia elongata is largely unknown but would make a fine plant for tropical and some warm temperate climates.
Germination: Light germinator! Only sprinkle on the surface of the substrate + slightly press on. Substrate: Coir, pure sand or sowing mix + 2/3 sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet.
