A small tree to 10 m tall in the Kiwi-fruit family, native to lowland and montane rainforests in Ecuador and Peru between 400 and 1600 m or rarely above.
It has large leaves and small, whitish flowers followed by small, green fruits. In cultivation it would be best suited to humid climates in USDA Zones 10 and above.
In cultivation it will do well in warm temperate climates that do not show extremes of heat or cold. Germination: Sow 1cm in coir or sowing mix + perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet. Germination takes 4-8 weeks.
