A very popular grass, widely distributed and common from Africa to tropical and subtropical Asia to Australasia. It grows in grasslands and open woodlands, at elevations between sea level and 3000 m.
The plants reach 1.5 m in height and present reddish stems, thin green leaves when young, gradually turning reddish and red brown inflorescences. It is an excellent grass for livestock as well as a drought tolerant ornamental, ideal for tropical and warm-temperate areas.
Germination: Sow 1cm in coir or sowing mix + perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet.
