This Korean Hornbeam (Carpinus turczaninovii) grows much, much faster than C. coreana and can develop a nice, thick trunk within a few years. For this reason, many bonsai enthusiasts prefer to work with this variety.
Emerging spring foliage is maroon-red, turning to green in the summer and shades of orange-red in the fall. Handsome, dense growth and attractive, gnarled trunk and branches.
Also makes a very charming, rather small landscape specimen, reaching only about 20 feet in height. Superb tree, not commonly found in nurseries.
