Native to the southern Appalachian and Ozark Mountains, Black Locust can be grown where most other trees don't survive. Fragrant white flowers appear in May and June.
Bees harvest the nectar to produce a honey regarded as one of the world's finest. Black Locust is a fast growing tree in the pea family (Fabaceae) that can reach 40 to 100 feet in height. Widely planted as a shade tree, the dense, quick growth makes Black Locust suitable for use as a screen or windbreak.
