This perennial grass is amply distributed from Florida and Mexico to Central and South America, where it grows along roadsides, riverbanks, forest margins and in pastures.
It forms dense tufts of robust, upright culms that reach up to 2.5 m in height, the leaf blades are keeled and smooth, with rough margins and the white, feathery inflorescences are somewhat similar to cotton balls.
Andropogon bicornis makes a nice ornamental for the tropics.
Germination: Direct sow either in late fall or early spring. Plant the seed just below the surface of the soil, compacting the soil very firmly. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.
