A deciduous perennial related to Aloe that forms a tuft of narrow, grass-like, slightly succulent leaves and upright, unbranched flower stalks to 80 cm tall with yellow, star-shaped flowers.
Bulbine abyssinica is found in rocky grasslands and woodlands in eastern and southern Africa and in Yemen and makes a nice drought and cold tolerant and care-free ornamental. Germination: Cover seeds only lightly with substrate. Substrate: Coir, pure sand or sowing mix + 2/3 sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet.
