This slender, moderately large, evergreen or semi-deciduous tree initially produces a tall, initially unbranched trunk with smooth, pale bark that holds very large, bipinnate leaves which make it look a lot like a tree fern or perhaps a palm.
Jacaranda copaia is a pioneer tree that grows very fast and can eventually reach more than 35 m tall. Mature trees produce a vase-shaped crown with stunning display of blue flowers during the dry season.
Native to tropical Central and South America from Mexico to Bolivia, it is best suited for climates in USDA Zones 10 and above. The timber is popular for its long straight, branch-free bole. Germination: Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 24. Slightly cover seeds with coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet. Germination takes 3-6 weeks.
