A dry deciduous tree, up to 15 m in height, widely distributed in monsoonal forests in Asia, from Yunnan province in China to India and Peninsular Malaysia.
It presents spiny branches, large, palmate, papery leaves and terminal, upright inflorescences. Brassaiopsis hainla will make an attractive ornamental for tropical and most warm-temperate areas.
