A majestic evergreen tree up to 40 m tall, native to southeastern Australia in the states of Victoria and Tasmania, where it grows in cool moist forest habitats at elevations between sea level and 1200 m.
It presents a large, buttressed trunk with a swollen base, covered by reddish-brown bark, glossy triangular dark-green leaves and greenish flowers, followed by nut-like fruits containing winged seeds. It is highly appreciated as an ornamental but also cultivated for its hard, good quality wood, which is used for floorings and furniture.
The Myrtle Beech will grow well in temperate climates in USDA Zones 8 and above.
Germination: Sow 1cm in coir or sowing mix + perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet.
